In just a couple of weeks, we will celebrate the holiday of Shavuot. In addition to being a Biblical agricultural holiday, Shavuot also marks the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, an event that not only shaped our identity as a people but also established the moral and ethical framework that guides us to this day.
One cherished tradition during Shavuot is Tikkun Layl Shavuot, a night of study and reflection. It is a time when we gather to engage deeply with our texts, exploring the wisdom of our tradition and its relevance in our lives today. This year, I invite you to join us for our congregational annual Shavuot Hop, a progressive dinner that will take us through the homes of our fellow congregants. This unique experience nourishes our bodies with delicious food and enriches our minds and spirits through meaningful discussion.
Our theme for this year's Shavuot Hop, “Voices from the Mountain, Cries from the Tunnels,” will center on the Jewish responsibility to redeem captives. This topic is especially poignant as we reflect on our obligations toward those in captivity, particularly those currently suffering in Gaza. We will delve into the teachings of our tradition that illuminate the importance of advocating for justice and compassion, even when faced with difficult decisions. Together, we will share stories of those who remain in captivity. We will deepen our understanding of this vital issue, reminding us of our collective responsibility to act with kindness and empathy.
The Shavuot Hop will occur on Sunday evening, June 1st, beginning at 5:30 PM.
You can click here to RSVP. We will send out the addresses of the homes after registration.
We will also have services on the first and second day of Shavuot, June 2nd and 3rd, at 9:00 AM. Yizkor will be recited on the second day of Shavuot.
Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Bradley Tecktiel
