Parshat Vayeshev

This Shabbat we continue our celebration of Chanukah. A couple of weeks ago as I walked through the carnage that took place on October 7th on Kibbutz Kfar Aza, I noticed this Chanukiah standing in the rubble of one of the post-army apartments. As I stared at it, immediately my thoughts turned to the iconic picture taken in Germany on Chanukah in 1932 with the Nazi flag in the background.

Chanukah celebrates the miracle of the oil and the defeat of the Assyrian Greeks by the Maccabees. This Chanukah, let us hope and pray for the defeat of Hamas, the modern-day Assyrian Greeks, and the safe return of the remaining hostages. The light of Judaism continues to glow proudly through the darkness of the night.

Shabbat Shalom and Happy Chanukah.
