Yizkor - We Remember the Victims of October 1

Just over a year ago our community was rocked by the tragedy of the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest concert. We all know now how much the massacre affected the victims, victims’ families, first responders and citizens of the valley. We also know the amazing way in which the community came together to help and support those deeply affected by the trauma of that evening. From the overflowing lines to donate blood, to the social workers, to the psychologists and mental health workers all the way to charitable contributions on behalf of the victims, showed our community strength, support and resilience.

The anniversary of the October 1st shooting coincides with Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah. I have been going back and forth in my mind about how to properly commemorate the disaster of October 1 in light of our holiday celebrations. With all the dancing and festivity that takes place on Monday evening for Simchat Torah, it did not seem like the appropriate time and place for the commemoration. I think the better venue is Monday morning during our Shemini Atzeret service when we will be reciting Yizkor. We hope you can join us for services which begin that morning at 9:00 AM. Yizkor will be recited approximately 11 AM. We will include some special readings and prayers for the victims of the October 1st shooting.
