Taking an Important Global Stand

Over the years the United Nations has exhibited an unhealthy obsession with just one of its 193- member nations, namely Israel. Since its inception in 2006 the UN Human Rights council has passed 45 resolutions singling out Israel, 5 just this past May. The UN Security council passed 131 resolutions against Israel just between 1967 and 1989, and more since.

Despite its clear bias against Israel, I have always agreed with the position that it is better to have a seat at the table than to be absent. At least we have the opportunity for an alternative voice to be heard. But over the last couple of years, I have been becoming more and more disillusioned with that stance regarding the UN, especially relating to the Human Rights Council.

This week the United States took the unprecedented step of withdrawing from the UN Human Rights Council. Ambassador Nikki Haley gave an impassioned speech on Thursday explaining the decision. She lays out a cogent and convincing argument. Kudus to the administration for taking this bold stance.
