Midbar Kodesh Temple members Alan and Donna Weinstein have been married for 51 years. Prior to moving to Anthem, Alan practiced Hematology and Medical Oncology for 30 years and was Medical Director of the cancer program for a hospital system in Southern New Jersey. Donna taught elementary school in the early years and, once their children were in school, she started her real estate career in that community. She was a 25 year member of the Board of Realtors. The Weinsteins have 2 adult sons and 6 grandchildren living in southern New Jersey, near Cherry Hill. They joined Midbar Kodesh Temple in February 2016.
The Weinsteins belonged to Temple Sinai of Cinnaminson in New Jersey. They joined the 125-150 family member Conservative congregation in 1979 and were very active in the synagogue and in the community. In the mid-80's Donna was asked by the synagogue president to help start a choir with five other women. She became the choir director. Once a month and at high holidays, they sang to enhance the services as the congregation could not afford a full time cantor. The choir is still singing, even though Donna is now here in Nevada. Donna was Treasurer of the synagogue for over 10 years. Alan was a board member of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Southern New Jersey for a number of years.
Donna and Alan started a Music and Cultural Arts Fund at their New Jersey synagogue to help defray the cost of programs that the congregation chose to enhance their programmatic offerings to the members and the general community in Southern New Jersey. It became a popular site of donations, and the programs were varied and appreciated. Often a nominal entrance fee helped defray the costs of the food and drinks and cleaning.
The Weinsteins graciously set up a similar fund at Midbar Kodesh Temple. Their gift helped fund the improvements to the sanctuary sound system. They also sponsored the Klezmer group program last spring. They look forward to bringing another Music or Cultural Arts program to Midbar Kodesh Temple when the synagogue reopens for programming.
The Weinsteins say that Midbar Kodesh Temple is a congregation filled with ruach. They enjoy sharing services with the membership and clergy in the warm and inviting sanctuary.
