Hi Midbar Kodesh Temple!

We are Joyce and Mort Smith, most recently from Rolling Hills Estates, CA.

Mort retired from his first career as a Technical & Management Consultant after 41 years, and in 1995 he went on to become an Advanced Health & Fitness Specialist teaching aerobics classes and serving as a personal trainer primarily for Seniors. Joyce is a retired Operating Room Nurse who worked for about 21 years at several hospitals and free-standing surgery centers in the Los Angeles area.

Joyce was raised in Connecticut and Mort in Brooklyn, NY. Since our marriage in 1958, we have lived in Brooklyn, NY; Norwalk, CT; Commack, NY (Long Island); the Palos Verdes Peninsula (52 years), and we now have a home in Sun City Anthem.

Both of us were active in Congregation Ner Tamid of South Bay for most of the time that we lived in CA. Mort was a long-time member of the Men’s Club Board, and he started/led the Men’s Club Photography Group for many years. Joyce was an Honorary Member of the Men’s Club since she was wonderful in helping with the Men’s Club Brunches and special events.

We have three children: Maia (and Ray) who live in Sun City Anthem (and are Midbar Kodesh Temple members themselves!), Karyn (and Steve) who live outside of Denver, and Phil (and Monica) who live in Southern California. Although we have been here for only a short time, we enjoy many of the activities available at Sun City Anthem and in the local area, including theaters/movies, Mah Jongg, and fitness training.
