Tangible Ways We Can Help Others

For many of us, finding opportunities to get directly involved in helping people truly in need can be difficult. Our lives are busy. Sometimes it is just easier to write a check, send a care package or drop off non-perishable food items. We rarely come in contact with homeless individuals or families that benefit from our donations.

That is one of the things I appreciate about Family Promise. It gives us the chance to meet face to face with people who are at a low point in their lives and need just a boost to help them get on the right track. We are able to be there for them at their time of need. We have the opportunity to show dignity and respect to families that are often abused and ignored.

Over the years I have been blessed to watch the incredible hospitality that our members show the families in the Family Promise program. For one week our lives intertwine and interact and we are able to be ambassadors for the Jewish community and the values our tradition hold dear.

It is not too late to get involved. If you are interesting in participating in anyway please be in touch with me or Marci Altman, marcialtman@midbarkodesh.org. If you'd like to donate monetarily, click here.

The dates for Family Promise this year are April 29-May 6.

Shabbat Shalom
