Yom HaShoah Memorial at Midbar Kodesh Temple

Midbar Kodesh Temple proudly housed this year's citywide commemoration of Yom Hashoah in a standing room only event. Midbar joined with the Board of Rabbis of Southern Nevada and community partners JewishNevada, Holocaust Survivors Group, Generations of the Shoah Nevada, The Adelson Educational Campus, Schechter Day School, Israeli American Council and the Sperling Kronberg Mack Holocaust Resource Center. Robert Fisher, former cantor at Midbar Kodesh Temple, was the Emcee. Myra Berkovits, Educational Consultant at the Sperling Kronberg Mack Holocaust Resource Center chaired the event. Special thank yous go to all volunteers.

Local survivors were invited to light a memorial candle in memory of those lost in the shoah. Students recalled their visits to the concentration camps on recent trips with March of the Living. Cantor Daniel Gale, community cantors and students, including MKT USYer Tobey Brill, were featured singers. Community leaders read inspirational pieces.

Holocaust survivor Harold Minuskin was the guest speaker, sharing stories of his own family's resilience and bravery through dramatic readings from both his mother's and aunt's memoirs. The Minuskin family’s experiences are recorded in Harold Minuskin's books "My Children, My Heroes: Memoirs of a Holocaust Mother" and "In the Ghetto and In the Forest."
