Commemorating the Holocaust in our community

During the month of April our community will commemorate the Shoah with two outstanding programs, reminding all how the targeting of Jews and other specific groups for persecution, led to extermination and murder of almost 12 million people in eastern Europe between 1939 and 1945. On Sunday, April 29 at 2 p.m. the SS St. Louis Project founder Robert Krakow and creator of the film "Complicit" will share the story of the ill-fated SS St. Louis at Midbar Kodesh Temple. The annual community wide Yom HaShoah commemoration will be held at Temple Beth Sholom on Sunday, April 15. Both programs honor local Holocaust survivors.

The Holocaust Resource Center, with a grant from Jewish Nevada will be hosting a viewing of the film "Complicit" which tells the story of the a ship filled with immigrants fleeing eastern Europe, who was turned away from several countries as the passengers sought asylum in June, 1939. A panel discussion featuring the film's creator Robert Krakow, a survivor of the SS St. Louis, a UNLV historian and a Boyd School of Law Immigration attorney will follow. The event will be held at Midbar Kodesh Temple.
