Life & Legacy Program

The next generation is watching what we do.

Midbar Kodesh Temple is proud to be part of the LIFE & LEGACY program. LIFE & LEGACY is a 4-year partnership program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation  that assists communities across North America, through partnerships with Jewish Federations and Foundations, to promote after-lifetime giving to benefit Jewish day schools, synagogues, social service organizations and other Jewish entities.

Through training, support and monetary incentives, LIFE & LEGACY motivates Jewish organizations to secure legacy gifts, steward donors and integrate legacy giving into the philanthropic culture of the Jewish community.

What's a legacy gift?
A legacy commitment is a way for each of us to help shape today, the community we hope to see tomorrow. We aim to create a community our grandparents would be proud of, and our grandchildren will thank us for. We hope you will join us in leaving a lasting legacy here at Midbar Kodesh. The funds we've raised through after-life giving go into a special account. This is called an endowment. The principal is not used or by our organization. The money is properly invested by professionals, and Midbar Kodesh Temple reinvests or receives the dividends and profits quarterly. Anyone, regardless of age or wealth, has the ability to leave a Jewish legacy at Midbar Kodesh Temple. So what will your legacy be?

Why create a legacy?
There are a lot of good reasons to create a Jewish legacy in our community. You can pass on your values to your family, show your commitment to Midbar Kodesh Temple for generations, to continue the programs and services you love at Midbar Kodesh, to be part of something larger than yourself or to do something in the future that you may not be able to do today. Maybe you want to make sure that your dues are paid in perpetuity, forever.  Maybe you have a specific goal in mind, a scholarship, a program, an initiative. Whatever you want to do with your legacy gift, we will make it happen. While Midbar Kodesh Temple does not provide tax, legal, or financial advice, we do encourage you to contact your trusted advisor to talk about how a prospective legacy gift can save you on capital gains taxes, estate taxes, and income taxes, because these savings can be significant. There's no wrong reason for creating a Jewish legacy.

Can I participate at my age or level of wealth?
Anyone, regardless of age or wealth, has the ability to leave a Jewish legacy at Midbar Kodesh Temple.

How can I participate?
There are multiple, easy ways to join the program. You can designate a gift in your will or trust, you can designate Midbar Kodesh Temple as a partial beneficiary of an IRA, pension fund or other savings vehicle, or you can purchase a charitable life insurance policy with Midbar Kodesh as the beneficiary. These are the three simplest options for legacy giving, and in fact they include assets that you might not even realize you own or that you might not assume would have value for a legacy gift. Everyone, regardless of age or wealth has the ability to leave a Jewish legacy here at Midbar Kodesh.
