Emily and Ron Ventura have been members of Midbar Kodesh Temple for 3 years. Ron is the Broker of Allison James Estates & Homes for Nevada and is a Las Vegas native. Emily, who came to Las Vegas with AIPAC 13 years ago, enjoys being a stay-at-home parent to 5 year old Zach and 2 year old Cole. They have been active in the Jewish community, and now with Midbar Kodesh. Zach just graduated from the ECC, and Cole attends full time. Myra Slotnick Berkovits, a graduate of Loyola University-Chicago, was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, where she taught at risk children for 14 years. Myra came to Las Vegas with her husband and two young children. She worked with Manpower, eventually buying a restaurant reservation service that made lunch and dinner reservations for most attendees at a variety of conventions. After a divorce, Myra went back to UNLV to take classes. She became licensed to teach elementary school in the Clark County School District and earned a Master's degree in Educational Supervision. Myra became an administrator and for 13 years was in charge of Title I HOPE, which serves the homeless student popul

Camp Shemesh will be in session through July 24!

Camp Shemesh, a Summer program for children 18 months to 5 years old at Midbar Kodesh Temple, started in full swing earlier this month as children returned to the building for the first time since March, when the synagogue building and school closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now back, the parents, preschool staff and students are working under special protocols to stay safe and healthy. The children busy themselves in the vegetable garden which will eventually house an adopted tortoise. They are preparing and watering a compost bin and learning how worms enrich the soil for the veggies they are growing for their tortoise. Becky and Jeff Lewis spend a lot of time around Midbar Kodesh Temple, as they have 2 active young daughters who are graduates of the ECC and are currently enrolled in MKT's Religious School. During the summers, Olive and Ella were among the free spirits enrolled in Camp Shemesh. Becky, arrived in Las Vegas with her Atlantic City, New Jersey family in 1986. Jeff, who says he has no other memory except Las Vegas, came with his family in 1979 from Los Angeles. Becky is the daughter of Arte and Kathleen Nathan, and Judie and Neal Lewis are Jeff's parents. What Can I Do? This is a question I have been asking myself for the last week. As I have watched many in the country rise up to the systemic racism and injustice in many of our police forces, judicial systems, prison systems, housing systems and more. What can I do? The very first thing that I must do is recognize and admit to myself that these problems actually exist. Many continue to insist that they do not. She graduates with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Urban Development and a minor in Geography. Eve attended religious school and celebrated her bat mitzvah at Midbar Kodesh Temple. She was an active member in MKT USY.
