Midbar Kodesh Temple celebrated the opening of the David L. Simon Center for Education and Tikkun Olam on January 8, 2012. This long awaited addition, is the final building phase for Midbar Kodesh Temple, located in Green Valley Ranch.
In 2007, the David L. Simon Foundation gave the gift of over $1.1 million to Midbar Kodesh Temple to build an education wing for the synagogue and the community. Connie Pectol, then administrator of the David L. Simon Foundation, has a great affection for the children and families at Midbar Kodesh Temple that began years ago when she had read about the accomplishments of Midbar's children. Connie had been trying to find the right project that would benefit the families of Midbar Kodesh Temple in a way that would be important to the synagogue and to the foundation. When she attended the 2007 sanctuary groundbreaking and heard that Midbar needed a new school building, she felt that she had found the perfect project. The donation was given in honor of the children of Midbar Kodesh Temple in memory of David L. Simon. The new wing will house a Judaic and Youth Library, a Youth Lounge, and 5 classrooms. Starting in August 2012, the Adelson School satellite campus, grades K-2, moves in, as well as the synagogue’s religious school program; the hallways will be filled with inspiration and learning, just as David L.
